THE countdown is on as final preparations are made for a community street party in Guiseley on Sunday, June 25 to raise more money for Christmas lights for the town.
St Oswald’s Street Party, sponsored by Manning Stainton, will consist of an afternoon of fun in Towngate, Guiseley with stalls, food and entertainment, all to raise money for the Guiseley Lights Appeal.
St Oswald’s Street Party will have an even bigger array of stalls and fun rides for visitors, and a larger, dedicated food and drinks area. The stage will play host to a variety of performers including local singers, musical groups and dance acts.
Also at the event, the newly formed community arts company Codswallop CIC, based in Guiseley, will be bringing mayhem to the party with live actors challenging innocent bystanders to duels; a creative and historic mission, set by St Oswald himself; and a Creation Station to help young 'saints' create their own cardboard armour.
As well as the family fun, Codswallop will be responsible for a reminiscent exhibition, displayed in the church itself, looking at who St Oswald was and the history of the local 'St Oswald's Pageants' which took place every year until the mid-1900s. Those who remember can add their memories to this exhibition, which will then be on display prior to the Tales Told Festival, looking at the wider history of Aireborough.
The fun starts at noon and will end at 6pm. Email guiseleylightssponsorship@gmail.com for more information
