ILKLEY residents are invited to get together for a great community picnic on Sunday.

Street parties, picnics and bake-offs are being held across the country in honour of the murdered Labour MP Jo Cox as part of a new community initiative launched by Jamie Oliver and the Duchess of Cornwall.

The gatherings are called the Great Get Togethers and are designed to unite people in their local communities in the biggest celebrations planned since the Queen's diamond jubilee.

They are being launched by the Jo Cox Foundation and the Big Lunch, part of the Eden Project, along with dozens of other community groups.

Friends of Ilkley Lido are hosting an afternoon of games, entertainment, food and fun at a massive community picnic in The Grove on Sunday (June 18) from noon until 3pm with people being asked to bring their own food and chairs.

Councillor Abdul Jabar, Bradford Council's Executive Member for Neighbourhoods and Community Safety, said: "It is great to see all these massive community picnics being held in the city and throughout the district.

"They have taken inspiration from Jo Cox's quote when she said we have more in common than that which divides us, and it is so true in Bradford. We have such a strong community spirit here and I'm sure everyone will thoroughly enjoy these great fun events."
