KEEP-FIT has become a whole lot easier for Guiseley people with the addition of outdoor exercise equipment in Nunroyd Park.

The equipment, aimed at adults, is part of improvement work paid for in the park by Guiseley and Rawdon councillors, Graham and Pat Latty and Paul Wadsworth.

The three councillors have been working with Leeds City Council's Parks Department to upgrade the footpaths through Nunroyd Park and to install new ones where needed. The improvements were sparked by the need for new paths to lead to the park's planned remembrance garden.

Cllr Graham Latty said: "We then started to think about other attractions for the park; an adult exercise area was the most popular suggestion and one which has been used in other areas with great success. The availability of some '106 money', money paid by housing developers for environmental and green space improvements, meant that we could fund the installation and plans were drawn up.

"The parks are attracting increasing numbers of runners, joggers and walkers and this new equipment should attract even more 'fitness' minded people.

"As local councillors we are delighted to have had the opportunity to enhance further an already attractive and increasingly well used Park and hope that residents will make full use of the equipment. With new footpaths there is no excuse not to explore Nunroyd Park whatever the weather."

Cllr Paul Wadsworth added: "I'd like to thank the Parks team for all their efforts in upgrading the paths at Nunroyd Park and installing the excellent new exercise equipment. The keep fit area is a great addition and I'm sure it will be well-used by local people and visitors. Ensuring people have good facilities to exercise and keep fit is essential to improving people's health and wellbeing, and what better way to encourage this than by making space for good quality facilities in our local park."
