FLEUR and Colin Speakman, of Burley-in-Wharfedale, have enjoyed major success with their acclaimed new book on the Yorkshire Wolds which was given a civic launch by East Riding of Yorkshire Council at the Treasure House, in Beverley, last week.

Fleur and Colin are best known as writers about the Yorkshire Dales. Fleur is the editor of The Yorkshire Dales Review and Colin author of the Dales Way and other books about walking the Dales.

Colin said: “Many walkers living in West Yorkshire don’t fully appreciate what wonderful yet very different countryside that exists in East Riding – just the other side of the Vale of York. Only a few miles east of York or north of Hull is a wonderful range of chalk hills, with magnificent opportunities for walking, cycling or driving along quiet roads, and even horse riding, easy to access not just by car, but by train and bus.

“The area has new fame thanks to the paintings of Bradford’s David Hockney and most recently Paul Rose’s BBC TV series The Yorkshire Wolds Way, but there is so much more to see and do besides, including not just the city of Hull, but several wonderful unspoiled market towns and villages, and a dramatic coastline with some of the best birdwatching in England."

The Yorkshire Wolds is available in Waterstones in Leeds, York and Bradford and The Grove Bookshop in Ilkley or on line via www.gristone.coop
