A GROUP of Ilkley schoolboys have raised hundreds of pounds for the mental health charity Young Minds by breaking an indoor rowing world record.

Following an exhausting 24 hour challenge, which saw a team of ten rowers from Bradford Grammar School Boat Club break the Under 19 Lightweight 24 Hour Rowing World Record, the boys raised £600 for the charity from sponsors.

The record, previously held by Orlando Rowing Club, Florida, involved the team rowing round the clock in a gym on one rowing machine for two minute shifts with carefully practised changeovers. The team crashed through the record with an hour to spare and went on to row an additional 18, 000 metres.

Very many congratulations to the team: Euan Adam, Ben Wood, Will Robson, Jonty Casson and Daniel Field, all from Ilkley, and John Burke,Tom Robinson , Alex Broadbridge-Kirbitson, Felix Baines and Lewis Day.
