A GROUP of volunteers is once again preparing to break out the bunting and dust off the doilies, as Towngate in Guiseley prepares to host another fundraising street party on Sunday, June 25.

The event, St Oswald’s Street Party, will consist of an afternoon of fun in Towngate with stalls, food and entertainment, all to raise money for the Guiseley Lights Appeal.

Following the success of the fundraising events in 2016, members of the organising committee are in the process of formally establishing Guiseley Lights Charitable Trust, to build on the fundraising efforts and ensure the Guiseley community has even more festive lights in 2017 and beyond.

Local MP and committee member Stuart Andrew said: “There is no doubt that the community really came out in force at Christmas for the Guiseley Lights switch on, with unprecedented numbers attending, and we want to build on this community spirit with the summer street party. We’re using the theme of St Oswald, as looking at the historical archives we discovered that Guiseley used to stage an annual pageant in his honour. There will be activities for the whole family to get involved in, a fantastic food court along with live entertainment and stalls to visit – all showcasing our local community.”

The organisers are appealing for sponsors and stall holders for the event, and inviting expressions of interest for anyone who would like to perform on the entertainment stage at the event. The fun starts at noon and will end at 6pm.
