YOUNG filmmakers from Otley are celebrating being shortlisted for an award.

Prince Henry's Grammar School students Marcus Dodd, Adam Lister, Alfie Liddicott and Will McPherson created a short horror film in their own time, shooting scenes at home and around the town.

The Face has now been nominated for the Leeds Young Filmmakers' Golden Owl Awards, a competition for anyone in the Leeds area aged 19 or under that showcases young talent.

The film is available to view on Will's Youtube channel and will be shown on the big screen in Millennium Square, Leeds in the run-up to the awards ceremony at Leeds Town Hall on Thursday, March 30.

Year 8 pupil Marcus - his fellow filmmakers are all Year 7 - said: "It’s very exciting and we’re really looking forward to the ceremony!

"Being nominated is a fantastic opportunity."

The Oscars-style awards night will feature a red carpet and see the winners presented with their prizes by celebrities and local dignitaries in front of an audience of friends, relatives, teachers and filmmaking professionals.

Faculty Leader in Performing Arts at Prince Henry's, Peter Condry, said: "It’s great when our students get involved in events like this.

"These students are a creative bunch and have thrown themselves at all the various artistic opportunities available at Prince Henry’s, so I’m not surprised this has led them into creating their own films outside school.

"We wish them lots of luck for the ceremony."

The competition is supported by Leeds City Council through the Leeds Young Film Network, ArtForms and Leeds Young Film Festival in partnership with Vista.
