ON St Patrick's day evening Ilkley Lawn Tennis and Squash Club celebrated the 70th birthday of coach Christine Fletcher who has been a member of the club for more than 60 years.
Christine is well known to the ladies tennis section and has been organising the club's thriving social tennis rotas for several decades.
To show their appreciation players decorated the club house in a Wimbledon theme with green and purple balloons and home grown flowers and friends provided a grand buffet complete with a pyramid of tennis-themed cupcakes, an icing sugar figurine of Christine in her trademark tennis kit and a giant chocolate cake in the shape of Christine's very own tennis racquet.
Moira Conlon, joint party organiser, said : "It was wonderful to celebrate and say thank you to such a lovely lady who has given so much to the club and been a friend and mentor to the players over so many years."
