POLICE are appealing for information after a cyclist was seriously injured in Otley.

The emergency services were called to Leeds Road's junction with East Chevin Road just after 10am on Friday, February 24.

West Yorkshire Police say the accident happened just after a grey Volkswagen Golf which had been travelling out of Otley, along Gay Lane, had stopped at the junction.

There was a collision between a cyclist who was travelling on Leeds Road into town and the car.

Paramedics treated the 72 year old male rider, who had come off his bike, at the scene and a Yorkshire Air Ambulance was also called and landed nearby.

He had suffered a serious head injury and was taken to Leeds General Infirmary in the land ambulance with some air ambulance crew travelling alongside to assist.

The police are asking anyone who saw the collision or was in the area at the time, and saw either the vehicle or the cyclist beforehand, to get in touch by calling 101 and quoting log number 0451 of 24/2.

East Chevin Road and parts of Leeds Road and Fairfax Street were closed for several hours after the incident to allow accident investigators to examine the scene.
