RAWDON got into the Christmas spirit when an estimated 2,500 people attended the annual lights switch on and late night shopping event.
Organisers say a great time was had by all at Tuesday's event, with the children’s free rides proving very popular and the parish council running out of mince pies and mulled wine by 7.30pm.
A spokeswoman said: "The Parish Council is grateful to the shops (who instigated the original event), the Community Library, Rawdon In Bloom, Aireborough Rotary and all the other community groups who worked together effectively to create an amazing event for Rawdon residents.
"We will be announcing Treasure Hunt winners on the Parish Council website www.rawdonparishcouncil.gov.uk on Friday."
Rawdon at Christmas takes place each year on Harrogate Road between the traffic lights and Benton Park School. This year's event featured Santa, live music, rides, a treasure hunt and food and drink. Rawdon Community Library and the shops on Harrogate Road opened late for the event.
