A WHARFEDALE MP is calling on residents to support their local businesses this weekend.

Greg Mulholland is making the appeal ahead of this year's Small Business Saturday on December 3.

Among those taking part this time will be Bramhope-based American desserts company The Yummy Yank, run by Maryland-born Lisa Gair.

Specialising in American style cakes, brownies, and cookies The Yummy Yank started out of Lisa’s kitchen and a stall at Bramhope Market, but has now expanded to tour events around the country and sell online.

Mr Mulholland, who visited the business, said: "Small Business Saturday is a great way people can show their support for small businesses and shop local.

"It was great to meet Lisa and to hear the story of her business and why she thinks Small Business Saturday is a great idea.

"Best of all I got to taste The Yummy Yank’s fantastic baking!

"I hope people will support all local small businesses, shops, pubs, and cafes on December 3."

Lisa added: "I am very proud to be a small business in the local area.

"I have worked hard over the last nine years to create a brand I am incredibly proud of, with baked goods straight from my oven and my heart.

"Because of my lovely customers supporting my business and enjoying my bakes, The Yummy Yank continues to grow and go from strength to strength.

"It was great to meet Greg and hear him talk so enthusiastically about small businesses, championing what it is that makes us so special.

"It's also fantastic to be a part of Small Business Saturday, which will showcase the very best of our treats as well as other incredible small businesses from the area."

The Yummy Yank will be at Ripon Christmas Market from 9am to 4pm on Saturday.
