A LAST Night at the Proms inspired fundraiser has boosted a campaign to get more defibrillators for Otley.

The event, led by the Yorkshire Volunteers Military Band, was held in the Market Square on Sunday, August 21.

It was organised by local publican and Town Councillor Peter Jackson (Lib Dem, Ashfield) who has been spearheading the push to get community defibrillators installed across town.

Cllr Jackson has hailed the fundraiser, which also featured performances by Prince Henry's Grammar School bands Hierarchy and Blyss, and local group The Names, a great success.

He said: "The event raised £ £637 of vital funding towards another defibrillator.

"I will, at the request of many, be organising another Night at the Proms show with the Yorkshire Volunteer Band, and will let everyone know when this is to take place."

He also praised the community for getting behind the day.

He said: "I had this thought of hosting a music event with a difference so approached Otley resident Dave Rimmer, a band member of Yorkshire Volunteers.

"To host this, I had to approach many people for help and assistance and was overwhelmed by their generosity.

"The stage and PA equipment was sponsored by Peter Heald of Lunds of Otley and first aid was organised by Tom Featherstone, while the Prince Henry's bands were organised by Chris Smith and The Names by Tony Myers.

"Volunteers Ben Featherstone and Bob Mcloughlin of the Town Team Volunteers also came forward to help with collections and the smooth running of the event.

"And Rachel Harris, who is currently trying to get her new salon open, took valuable time out to help with face painting.

"So many people also gave their time and donated prizes for the tombola - I am so very grateful."
