THREE Horsforth schoolgirls have cycled 140 miles to raise money for a charity mission to Borneo.

Olivia Gregory, Naomi Adams and Isobel Russell are raising money towards their goal of £4,000 by cycling 140 miles from Tynemouth to Whitehaven.

The three girls are planning to go on a Camps International expedition to Borneo, to take part in a number of projects to help local people.

The three friends, who are all 16, cycled the Leeds and Liverpool Canal last year to raise money for the charity Bethany’s Smile, collecting £52 during the 127-mile challenge.

Now they have completed a140-mile Coast-to-Coast ride.

Olivia said: "We are raising money, with a goal of £4,000, which we must reach in the next year.

"This money will send us out there for a month in summer 2017, where we will be helping in various local villages to improve the living standards of many men, women and children.

"We will be going with the company Camps International, which organises many trips like this every year, giving people like us the opportunity to help change lives."

The girls, who all atend Horsforth School, will be digging foundations and laying bricks for new homes in the village of Mantanani, deforesting habitats along the Kinabatangan river and developing the local kindergarten in Bongkud to allow the children to begin in education.
