A 74-YEAR-OLD cyclist has set off on a 400-mile challenge to raise money to fight cancer.
Caroline Herries, from Guiseley, is hoping to raise £6,000 in aid of a planned cancer immunology research centre at Southampton University – the first dedicated facility of its kind in the UK.
Caroline’s son, John, has had successful treatment for lymphoma from the Southampton team after three years of unsuccessful chemotherapy elsewhere.
Caroline set off from Gretna Green and is hoping to arrive in Southampton on Wednesday after a ten-day journey.
Caroline said: "The research happening at the University of Southampton is truly world-leading, and is bringing hope to patients and their families, who have been given a second chance at a full life thanks to immunotherapy treatments developed in Southampton."
