ENTERPRISING students are enjoying a taste of success as a sandwich they created goes on sale at Subway.
The five girls, who all attend Guiseley School, came up with the idea of a Mexicano Sub in a competition run by the Guiseley store along with their school and the charitable organisation Young Enterprise.
The competition was launched by franchisee, Ian Dawes, who now hopes to run it with other schools and to eventually push it out nationally.
A class of 30 pupils were asked to design a sandwich based on a set list of ingredients, working out costings and profit margins along with creating a marketing plan and presenting their ideas to the judges and rest of the class.
The winning team of Lily Hemsley, Molly Moor, Helen Tomlinson, Neve Booth and Sophie Walker designed a sandwich filled with chicken, Southwest sauce and salad.
They were invited to Guiseley Subway on Monday to see their concoction go on sale to the public. The Mexicano will be available until June 5 and is being marketed in store with posters and flyers, partly designed by the pupils.
Neve said: "We’ve all had great fun doing this – it’s really exciting to get our sandwich made and sold in Subway."
Ian added: "I’m delighted to offer the pupils of Guiseley School a chance to take part in this exciting competition. Their presentation was excellent and the Sub was brilliant."
