TEMPORARY traffic lights have finally been taken down on the A65 in Ilkley as work on gas pipes continues.

Northern Gas Networks has confirmed that it will not be putting the lights back up for the remainder of the work on Skipton Road.

The company is working on a ten week project to replace metal gas mains with modern plastic pipes. The work began on March 28.

A spokesman confirmed that the lights, which have caused long traffic delays in both directions during the busiest periods, will not be returning.

She said a contraflow system, with no lane closure, has instead been introduced, allowing the work to continue on the road.
