PUPILS at Yeadon Westfield Junior School will be 'getting wiggy with it' to help children with cancer.

The school has signed up for Wig Wednesday, CLIC Sargent’s annual event when thousands of fundraisers across the UK wear wacky wigs to school, college or work, and make a donation to support children and young people with cancer.

Youngsters will also be donating a pound for the chance to nominate their favourite teachers to wear a wig for the day.

Now, the school is encouraging other people to organise their own Wig Wednesday fundraisers in support of the charity's work.

Headteacher, Lisa Piotrowicz, said: "The whole school is looking forward to getting wiggy with it on May 25 for this brilliant cause.

"We’ve signed up for Wig Wednesday because CLIC Sargent’s nurses and social workers do an amazing job supporting children, young people and their families with cancer through the hardest of times, and we want to do our bit, too.

"Hopefully, even more local schools, colleges, and businesses will be inspired by our pupils to get involved and become hair-os for CLIC Sargent."

CLIC Sargent fundraising manager for Yorkshire area, Lindsay Kay, said: "CLIC Sargent is there to support children and young people with cancer, as well as their families, every step of the way. But we can’t do it without the support of our brilliant fundraisers.

"By signing up for Wig Wednesday on May 25, you can help to change things for the better for thousands of children and young people with cancer, so please get involved.”

CLIC Sargent provides practical, emotional, clinical, and financial support from diagnosis onwards for children and young people with cancer, and their families across the UK.
