TEMPORARY traffic lights which have led to congestion on the main A65 through Ilkley over the past few weeks are to be taken out for the bank holiday weekend.
Northern Gas Networks, which is carrying out ten weeks of work to replace underground gas mains on Skipton Road, says it will temporarily remove its traffic management system on the road from Friday (April 29) and reinstate them ready to begin work again on Tuesday (May 3).
Dean Woolley, Network Officer for NGN, said: “We appreciate that Monday’s Ilkley Carnival is an important community event for the town, so to accommodate the needs of our customers we will temporarily remove the traffic management system this weekend.
“Work will restart on Tuesday May 3 under the previous conditions, as we look to complete the project as quickly and as safely as possible.
“Our customers are extremely important to us and we’re continuing to listen to feedback from the community. If anyone would like to speak to the team they can contact us on (0800) 0407766 or email customercare@northerngas.co.uk. We’d like to thank everyone for bearing with us while we carry out these essential works.”
