ILKLEY Grammar School joined hundreds of other organisations across the UK in celebrating Safer Internet Day and promoting the safe and responsible use of technology.

Safer Internet Day #SID2016 is organised by the UK Safer Internet Centre each February to promote the safe and responsible use of online technology and mobile phones for children and young people.

Safer Internet Day 2016 was held on Tuesday, with the theme ‘Play your part for a better internet’.

To celebrate the day, the school challenged its students to share a comment on how they can help make the internet a place of kindness and respect, not a place of hate.

The school’s Year 8 students were treated to an eSafety drama production from the Saltmine Theatre Company.

Assistant headteacher, Chris Washington, invited the group into school to push home the message of students taking responsibility for their own eSafety when online.

He said: "It is vital we educate our students and empower them to make wise choices that will impact the rest of their lives."
