FOOTBALL fans are being asked to help needy people in the run-up to Christmas by donating to a collection for Otley Food Bank this weekend.

Guiseley AFC will use its home game against Bromley on Saturday to hold a collection.

The club’s Community Foundation helped organise two collections last season and, with the help of players and supporters, put together more than 20 boxes of food, helping more than 50 vulnerable households.

A spokesman said: "With Christmas on its way, we ask that if you have any food you can spare and wish to help out, please get involved with what is a truly worthy cause in the local area.

"Collection points will be available within the ground on both days for those able to help."

The following food and goods are particularly needed – tea, coffee, tinned fruit, vegetables, tinned potatoes, biscuits, toilet paper, toothbrushes, toothpaste, long-life milk, fruit juice and cereals."

Otley Food Bank helps individuals, couples and families who do not have enough money to buy food, often because of family break-up, job losses, theft and reductions in benefits.

The Food Bank provides emergency parcels of three days’ supplies, normally up to three times, in a crisis.
