A CHURCH cafe recorded surplus takings of more than £6,000 last year, despite the current financial and economic climate.
This year’s total now means that over the past eight years, Cornerstone Cafe in Menston, has been able to donate more than £25,000 to a large variety of different charities.
Cornerstone Cafe, part of Menston Methodist Church, shared the takings equally between the church and six charities, and an informal coffee morning was held last week at which representatives were able to talk briefly about the work of their individual charities.
The charities supported this year were: Ilkley community enterprise cafe Outside the Box, Martin House Hospice,Yorkshire Air Ambulance, Singing for the Brain, Otley - a service provided by Alzheimer's Society which uses singing to bring people together in a friendly and stimulating social environment, Beacon, a Bradford based charity seeking to address the needs of asylum seekers living in the Bradford area, and Save the Children Refugee Fund.
