MORE than 200 staff, partners and friends celebrated Virtual College’s 20 year anniversary at the Craiglands Hotel in Ilkley.

Yorkshire-based, Virtual College was one of the first pioneers in the online learning arena and is enjoying a major surge in growth.

“In June 2013, we celebrated one million online learners,“ said Virtual College chief executive officer, Rod Knox. “We are likely to hit two million early in the new year - a huge increase over such a short period.”

At the celebratory event, hosts Rod Knox and chairman, Bob Gomersall reflected on the beginning and development of Virtual College.

From the start, Rod and Bob shared the same vision of how technology could have a major impact on education. Rod’s technology background complemented Bob’s roots in education as they developed pioneering online learning solutions which anticipated the adoption of technology.

Mr Gomersall added: "We have witnessed many technological changes over the last 20 years. The one area that has had the greatest impact on our business, and many others, has been the growth of the Internet."
