THE HEAD of regional tourism agency Welcome to Yorkshire will officially light up Addingham for Christmas at the village's celebrations.

Sir Gary Verity will join Addingham Gala, Queen Briony Moffat, at the Christmas lights switch-on ceremony, part of a day of festive activities, including the return of the Addingham Christmas Market.

The market is organised by shop local scheme Totally Locally Addingham, and has so far proved to be a popular and successful community event for the village and its small businesses

This year the market will be on November 28 from 2.30pm in the car park area behind The Swan pub in Main Street.

It will be followed once again at 4.30pm with the switch-on of the village Christmas lights. Stalls at the market will be showcasing the range of products on offer from independent Addingham traders, organisations and small businesses.

One of the event organisers, Sarah Mayo, said: "It has become an annual event in the village calendar now and we all really look forward to it.

"We are thrilled to be welcoming Sir Gary Verity to Addingham and look forward to showcasing the wonderful community spirit and fabulous independent businesses and traders our village has and which was so boosted by the wonderful success of Le Tour de France and Le Tour Yorkshire."
