BURLEY Summer Festival got off to a fine start at the weekend with fun for all the family taking over the centre of the village.

The fast-growing annual festival in Burley-in-Wharfedale begin on Saturday with a vintage engines rally at the Generous Pioneer, and events will continue until Sunday, August 30.

Grange Park was the venue on Saturday afternoon for music from the Anchor Big Band, plus stalls, fairground rides, teas and cakes. The Cabaret Saltaire took over Burley Social Club on Saturday evening for an evening of musical comedy and magic, while Wharfedale Chamber Ensemble, conducted by David Greed of Opera North, performed a concert at Burley Methodist Church.

Local dog owners turned up with their pets for the festival's fun dog show at the recreation ground.

Owls, classic vehicles, food and drink, and fun in Grange Park were the order of the day on Sunday.

Villagers and visitors to Burley were able to get close up to owls, with an introduction to birds of prey on display, and learn about their natural habits and habitat. Handlers gave people the chance to stroke some of the birds.

A wide selection of traders and producers crammed into the car park of the Red Lion, Main Street, for the Burley Summer Festival Food and Drink Market.

The ever popular classic vehicle show made its return to Burley Cricket Club, Grange Road, on Sunday.

Hundreds of sports cars, classic models and other vehicles descended on the cricket club field for the day.

There were plenty more attractions around the village throughout the day, including donkey rides in the park, a family fun day organised by Burley Nursery, a mini-assault course set up by Burley Scouts, a craft market at the Queens Hall, a vintage fair in the Queens Hall annexe, a healthy living event organised by Grange Park Patient Participation Group, have-a-go bowls in Grange Park, and Burley Art Club's Show at the St Mary's Parish Centre, Station Road.

The festival continues with music, entertainment and family fun, including the popular Scarecrow Trail around the village.
