A CRASH that left a car on its side in the street at the centre of an Ilkley campaign has reignited anger about the lack of action on parking problems.

A woman was treated by an ambulance crew at the scene of the collision with a parked car in Grove Road last Thursday afternoon, before being taken to hospital.

Her injuries were not thought to be serious.

The accident happened at about 3.35pm, and resulted in police shutting off the street while paramedics treated the woman and the car was removed.

The street is currently at the centre of a campaign to restrict parking, with residents fearing it poses a road safety hazard.

A parked car was written off in a similar collision in Grove Road several months ago

Ilkley parish councillor, Mike Ridgway, was among those who saw the aftermath of the collision.

"This is what we said would happen, and now it has," he said.

Cllr Ridgway has been among those pressing for action in Grove Road. Bradford Council has already carried out a consultation with residents on the street, who want to see double yellow lines put down to restrict parking.

But the lengthy legal process means no lines have appeared months later.

Cllr Ridgway and fellow ward member, Martin Smith, have both been calling for a national streamlining of the process for setting up new traffic regulation orders, meaning local authorities can take action more quickly.

Work is to get underway at another parking and traffic hotspot in Ilkley – the junction of Skipton Road and Bolton Bridge Road – but there is no sign of a resolution for Grove Road.

Cllr Smith said: "Following the wrong marking of the junction of Skipton Road and Bolton Bridge road by the contractor, this has now been replaced with the proposal I put forward that will help pedestrians cross the road at this point. There are no islands yet, but it is well to see if the proposal works before making judgement."

Road schemes in Ilkley were up for debate at a meeting of Bradford Council's Keighley Area Committee last week.

The committee agreed the question of a parking strategy for the whole of Ilkley should be presented to the local authority director responsible.

Ward councillor, Anne Hawkesworth (Ind, Ilkley), said: "Because of the complexities and the funding, it needs to be referred to the joint authority."
