ILKLEY'S town crier Isabel Hogan was dressed to impress at Bridlington's Bi Annual Old Town Summer Festival Town Crier competition at the weekend.

Isabel was one of 11 entrants who took part in the competition on Sunday, and was crowned Best Dressed Crier by judges.

Isabel, who has been Ilkley's town crier since August 1, 2014, said: "It was my first, but definitely not my last, competition representing Ilkley.

"There were two rounds. In round one, each crier delivers their Home Cry, a piece between 100 and 125 words, self-written and extolling the virtues of their home town. A wonderful opportunity to spread the word for all that is good about Ilkley.

"Round two was again 100-125 words self-written but on a theme. The theme was Bridlington twinned with Walmington-on-Sea, as Bridlington recently hosted the filming of the new Dad's Army movie, due for release in February 2016. I'd estimate more than 400 people heard the cries during the course of the day."

The host crier was Bridlington's own TC David Hines. Other criers were: David Bull, from Filey; Les Cutts, Halifax & Calderdale; Terry Ford, Otley Laurie Gilbert, Dewsbury; Devlin Hobson, Middlewich; Adrian Holmes, Sandwell; David Jackson, Malton; Ken Knowles, City Of Lichfield; Eliza Mowe, Barnoldswick; Peter Stemmer, Darlington and Michael Wood, East Riding Of Yorkshire.

Isabel's next cry in Ilkley will be at the opening of Dan's Den soft play at Christchurch in The Grove on Saturday. Her next official council engagement will be on Yorkshire Day – August 1 – to celebrate 150 years since the arrival of the first train in Ilkley.
