CAROL Brown, a campaigner for disability and social justice, has died at the age of 68.

Carol, who suffered from Parkinson’s and MS, passed away on April 17 at Ghyll Royd nursing home in Guiseley.

A woman who frequently challenged authority, she was the widow of John Riley, the Cambridge-educated poet who died tragically in Leeds. A tribute will be paid to her with a special event at Leeds University on April 24.

Carol was a poet, a multi-linguist, a musician and teacher and up to the very end of her life campaigned to improve the services for disabled people.

Just two days before she died, with the help and support of Coun Graham Latty, she obtained a new path and dropped curbs along New Ghyll Royd Road to make it safer for wheelchair users to access the retail park.

Carol was a member of St Matthew’s Church, Chapel Allerton, and her funeral will be held there on Wednesday, April 29, at 2.15pm.
