ADDINGHAM Allotments and Gardens Association’s 35th Spring Flower Show was well supported by local gardeners and schoolchildren.

The show was held at Addingham Memorial Hall, Main Street, on Saturday, April 11.

Organisers say the weather was kind the week leading up to the show, and it just about held up for show day.

A greater focus on advance publicity, some new classes, a determined effort by the committee together with exemplary support from Addingham folk boosted the number of exhibitors who showed 108 exhibits, more than double the previous year.

These figures were further enhanced by an amazing 129 additional exhibits from the children of Addingham School - praised by organisers as a ‘valiant effort’.

Visitors and exhibitors filled the hall, admired the beautiful items on display, enjoyed the coffee morning and caught up with friends.

One of the new classes was Art with a theme of ‘My Shed’. This proved to be a popular addition with the visitors and demonstrated the diversity of talent we have in the village.

The association thanked local art teacher, Sue Ross, for advising and judging this class.

The flowers and plants were judged by the very experienced Peter Smith of Bolton Abbey Estate. The children’s’ classes were judged by Jackie Carpenter and Peter Hindle and the Art and Photography classes by Susan Ross.

The trophies were presented by Tom Benstead, chairman of the association. The Best in Show trophy was won by Don Barrett, who also won the new Low Mill Cup. The Childrens’ Shield was won by Sophie Swann from the reception group.

The association thanked all the helpers, on and off committee, exhibitors, judges and visitors, for making a valuable contribution to the success of the show.
