A FASHION show and lunch organised by Ilkley Candlelighters has raised £1,600.

The money adds to the £1 million raised by the Ilkley Candlelighters over the last 30 years. The local charity is part of the Leeds-based Candlelighters Charity which raises money for children’s cancer services across Yorkshire.

All the money raised by the charity goes towards providing home comforts for the families of children and adolescents suffering from cancer. This includes items such as chair beds, which allow parents and carers to stay by the side of their child’s hospital bed, kitchens, lounges, counselling, play therapists, games for adolescents, holiday breaks and much more.

The charity also funds crucial research to fight childhood cancers.

The Ladies Lunch and Fashion Show is an annual event which this year was held at The Devonshire Arms Hotel, Bolton Abbey.

Katie Powell and the events management team at the hotel were great hosts and the event was supported by many independent Ilkley shops, such as Stella and Herbert and the Attic, who provided the fashion show. The Harrogate Candle Company and Temple Spa stalls were popular additions to the event and added a lovely aroma to the surrounding area.

Claire Parr, of Ilkley Candlelighters, said as a local charity, Ilkley Candlelighters greatly appreciated the support from local people and businesses without whom they could not raise the money.

“Everyone who attended had a fantastic time and the money was raised via commission, raffles and donations,” she added.

Ilkley Candlelighters work hard throughout the year raising money.

The fundraising year culminates in the May Ball at Rudding Park Hotel in Harrogate which this year takes place on Saturday, May 9. The theme for the ball this year is High Society and as usual Candlelighters are appealing for Top Hat Draw Prizes, auction prizes, sponsorship and for people and businesses to take tables for a night of fun, dancing and entertainment.
