VOLUNTEERS were thanked for their community work in an awards ceremony.

Keighley and Ilkley Community and Voluntary Action (KIVCA) presented certificates to volunteers of all ages in the Ilkley and District Volunteer Awards 2015.

Ilkley Parish Council chairman, Councillor Andrew Walbank, presented the certificates at the ceremony in the Winter Garden, Ilkley, and Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Mike Gibbons, thanked the winners and their fellow volunteers for their valuable work.

There were three categories of awards: community involvement (aged 25 and over), community involvement (aged 24 and under) and encouraging sporting activity.

Among those presented with certificates were David Pyett, a founder member of the Friends of the King’s Hall and Winter Garden and leading light in Ilkley Concert Club, Christine Henney, the project officer for the soon-to-be completed Dan’s Den community soft play facility, and members of the Carved Stone Investigation (CSI) Rombalds Moor Team.

Husband and wife Paul and Marilyn Jennings, who run Addingham Scouts and Addingham Cubs, were awarded for their long-running service to the Scouting movement.

Elizabeth Bowen, 79, was presented with a certificate for her work for the Friends of the Manor House. Maureen Spence, who has been volunteering for the Clarke Foley Centre in Ilkley since 1980, was also presented with an award.

The youngest award recipients included volunteers for Otley and District Riding for the Disabled.

The recipients were as follows: Community Involvement (aged 25 and over) - Mary Heathcote (Abbeyfield Menston and Ilkley sites); Christine Henney (Dan’s Den Project); Alison Ledgerwood (Ilkley Senior Citizens Club); Marilyn Jennings (Addingham Cubs); Paul Jennings (Addingham Scouts); Wendy Cubie (ShopAssist, Ilkley and District Good Neighbours); David Heighway (Shop Assist, Ilkley and District Good Neighbours); Joan Sumner (Shop Assist, Ilkley and District Good Neighbours).
