COUNCILLORS in Otley fear a city-wide review could spell bad news for the town’s rubbish tip.
Leeds City Council is reviewing its waste recycling sites in light of plans to open a new incinerator, at Cross Green, next year.
The local authority is also, as publicised in this paper recently, making all of its tips only available to Leeds residents — using a permit-badge system — from April.
Otley’s ward councillors say both moves have left them concerned over the future of Ellar Ghyll tip, which is based near Menston and the border with Bradford Council’s area of authority.
Cllr Sandy Lay (Lib Dem, Otley & Yeadon) said: “Although we have questioned the council on the future of our local sorting site, we have received no clear answer other than that its location could impact on its viability.”
