A WHARFEDALE MP has led a team of politicians to victory in a fundraising rugby league match.
Greg Mulholland (Lib Dem, Leeds North-West) captained the Political Animals in a game against The Journalists last Sunday.
The game, played at the Wigan Warriors’ training ground in Orrell, ended 10-6 to the politicians.
It also raised £824 for Rugby League Cares and Joining Jack, a charity that supports research into finding a cure for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.
Mr Mulholland said: “A huge thanks to all the politicians and journalists who took part, and also to Wigan Warriors for hosting us.
“The match was also a fantastic way to raise awareness of two charities who do superb work.”
The politicians team included MP Andy Burnham, former MP Andy Reed, and councillors from several local authorities.
The Journalists team, meanwhile, was led by the owner of League Weekly, Danny Lockwood.
