LANDMARK public buildings including Ilkley Town Hall and the King’s Hall have been officially declared assets of community value to protect their future.
Councillors sitting on Keighley area committee approved the nomination to list the town hall, King’s Hall, Winter Garden and Ilkley Library as assets of community value when they met at Keighley Town Hall on Thursday last week.
Ilkley Civic Society chairman Helen Kidman spoke about the huge value of the complex to the town from a historical architectural and community aspect.
Councillor Anne Hawesworth (Ind, Ilkley) thanked the civic society for fronting the process and Helen for her work.
The status gives the community a right to delay the sale of buildings in order to put together bids if the owner decides to sell them.
Although Bradford Council has not announced any plans to sell the complex, there are fears the buildings could fall foul of any cuts.
