A COUNCILLOR has welcomed funding announced by the Government to shut down illegal developments.
Cllr Colin Campbell, who represents Otley and Yeadon, said the Planning Enforcement Fund is a £1 million pot of cash that local authorities can apply for to help cover the legal costs of court injunctions against unlawful development or illegal campsites.
He said: “I urge the council to take the government up on their generous offer. Many parts of Leeds suffer the blight of unlawful development and in the past the council has had great difficulties enforcing its planning decisions, leading to long drawn out battles that leave the residents affected angry and confused.
This money will help the council to catch up on their backlog of enforcement”.
