COUNCILLORS have welcomed a delay in the decision on parking arrangement at a Horsforth primary school to allow current problems to be improved.

Horsforth councillors Brian Cleasby and Chris Townsley say expanding Broadgate Lane Primary School will lead to increased traffic.

Cllr Townsley said: “I am pleased that the Plans Panel recognised the need for more time to sort out the chaos around the school every pick-up and drop-off time. The plans as they stand are just not good enough.

“It is important that this issue is resolved so that local residents’ and parents’ lives are not disrupted even further as school numbers grow.

“Also, any plans to ease the congestion will increase student safety outside the school as well.”

Coun Cleasby added: “We are fighting for the public bus stop directly outside the school to be moved just a little further down the road. We are not asking for the stop to be removed entirely, just to be moved from directly outside the gates in order to ease the current parking problems.”

“At the moment, parents fight for space up and down the street, blocking in residents’ drives, and when the buses stop at peak times they can cause traffic jams to back up, making the chaos even worse.”
