ONE of Otley's few remaining major employers is set to close - with the loss of 74 jobs.
Ideal Standard, which makes plastic mouldings for bathrooms, announced on Thursday, November 13 that it plans to shut its Ilkley Road base in the town within the next 12 months.
The firm says the move is part of a decision to "restructure its production base", and is entering a formal, 30 day consultation period with its Otley staff and trade unions.
Ideal Standard's managing director, Keith Broad, said: “As a company we do not make these kinds of proposals lightly, especially when they affect the livelihood of our employees.
"However, we believe that this is a necessary step to gain further efficiencies and safeguard our future competitiveness.
"We understand this is extremely difficult news for everyone, employees and the local community alike.
"We will do all we can to ease the transition for everyone involved and will, with immediate effect, initiate and comply with the legal consultation process with trade unions and employees."
