A UNIQUE annual party for the over 90s provided an afternoon of entertainment and refreshments for some of the oldest residents of Wharfedale.

The Ilkley and District Good Neighbours Annual Over 90s Party, the only event in the Bradford District dedicated to people aged 90 and over, was held at Ilkley's Clarke Foley Centre on September 27.

Once again, free entertainment and afternoon tea was served up to more than 90 guests, who came from from Addingham, Burley-in-Wharfedale, Ilkley and Menston.

They were well looked after by volunteers from many local community groups who took part, as well as young people from Ilkley Grammar School and Wharfedale Air Cadets.

Many of the guests now live in local in care homes, and the party was one of the few opportunities in the year for some residents to meet up with people they first met many years ago.

Councillor Mike Gibbons attended in his capacity as the Lord Mayor of Bradford, and the event also welcomed Ilkley Parish Council chairman, Councillor Andrew Walbank.

They both enjoyed chatting to the partygoers, along with Councillor Heathcliffe Bowen, Honorary Vice President of Ilkley Good Neighbours.

And Baroness Lockwood, who has been Honorary President of Ilkley Good Neighbours for many years, was able to attend the party for the first time as a nonagenarian herself.

The guests were welcomed with a medley of 40s tunes played by pianist Brian Mason.

Young dancers fromJoze School of Dance in Ilkley performed some energetic routines while the guests enjoyed their afternoon tea.

The event finished with community singing led by Shirley Britton and Michael Loftus.

Councillor Paul Kitching once again compered the party, looking very striking in his red fez.

Volunteers and funding came from many local groups including Ilkley & District Good Neighbours, Ilkley & District Round Table, the Clarke Foley Centre, Ilkley Parish Council, Keighley and Ilkley Voluntary and Community Action, Soroptimist International of Ilkley, Ilkley Flower Club, Rotary Club of Ilkley Wharfedale, Ilkley Rotary Club, Creative Support, Wharfedale Air Cadets, and Twenty Four Seven Nursing.
