POLICE are still searching for robbers who targeted a Ben Rhydding convenience store in a late night raid.

Staff members were threatened by masked men carrying wooden staves as they prepared to close the Tesco Express store in Leeds Road for the evening, in a robbery similar to an incident in May this year.

Workers were confronted by two men who entered the shop on Thursday evening at 11.40 pm, armed with sticks and making demands for money.

Both offenders wore gloves and hooded tops which covered their faces. Cash was taken and the offenders left on foot.

It is unclear which direction they took but police believe they may have had a vehicle waiting somewhere in the vicinity.

The weapons they were carrying were similar in appearance to fence posts and one suspect was described as wearing grey adidas trainers, white tracksuit bottoms, a cream nylon type hooded jacket with the hood pulled tight around the face, and grey gloves.

The second was described as a white male wearing grey trainers, dark bottoms, a dark hooded top pulled tight around the face and white gloves. It is suspected the men ran to a waiting vehicle but none was seen.

Det Insp Neil Benstead of Bradford CID, said: "This was a very frightening experience for the staff involved and I would appeal to anyone who witnessed this or has any information about it including any vehicle used to contact Bradford CID on 101."

In May this year three masked thugs escaped with cash and cigarettes after a late night raid at the same premises.

They leapt over the counter to confront staff and were able to grab money and cigarettes before fleeing.

A customer was also present and police they were left shaken, along with staff members, though no-one was injured.

Tesco said they were aware of the latest incident and were helping police with their investigation.
