PRINCE Henry's schoolgirl Anna Middleton, of Menston, returned from a family holiday in Switzerland on Sunday (((((31 August))))) to find her winning entry to the poster competition at last year's Menston Show posted around the village and wider afield.

This year the traditional competition, to design a poster for the following year's show, has been replaced by a competition to design a poster for the village's commemorations of the First World War, one of 21 show entry classes for 14-year-olds and under.

Despite her artistic talents Anna will not be entering the poster competition this year as she is now 15-years-old, returning to school to prepare for GCSEs in sciences, history, French, German and drama.

Anna says however that she will be visiting the Show to try her luck in the new 'young people's activity zone' for youngsters aged seven to 17, organised by the recently formed Menston Business Association (MBA) with top prizes of vouchers for £12.50, £7.50 and £5 to spend at Menston's Solo delicatessen, coffee shop and bistro on Main Street.

The MBA zone has six different competitive activities ranging from write a five or six line poem with a WW1 theme, or identify the place in Menston where 12 photographs were taken, to how many step ups can you do in one minute, each of the activities having prizes and certificates for two age groups, seven to 11 and 12 to 17, sponsored by Menston businesses. There is also a mini toy supermarket game for younger children.

Menston resident Roger Livesey, who has organised 'the zone' on behalf of the MBA, said: "We are hoping that these new activities will not only attract even more youngsters to the show but also bring the more than 70 local businesses based in Menston to the attention of more residents and encourage support for them."

Full details of and entry forms for the Menston Village Show, to be held in Kirklands Community Centre, with 84 entry classes in all, can be found on the website http://menstonvillagewharfedale.com.

Top prize in the raffle at the Show is a super car clean and polish, worth almost £300, donated by Menston Seat and Peugot dealers JCT Menston.

The show is open to the public from 2pm on Saturday, September 6, 50p adult entry, ending with an auction of show produce at 4pm. Entries in all the general show classes must be delivered to the hall between 10.45am and 11.30am on the morning of the show.
