Otley Lions recently organised a Safari Hunt around the town. No wild animals were endangered in the process: the “hunt” entailed following a set of clues to track down images of a lion in shop windows. The participation rate was very high and all the competitors had a lot of fun. As a valuable by-product, the shop windows of many Otley businesses received unprecedented attention.
Each competing team had to invent and register a name – a task often completed with some considerable imagination and originality. The winners were “Granny Wright,” who won a gift voucher very kindly donated by “Toyland.”
The photograph shows “Granny Wright,” comprising Mrs. Joy Wright and her grandchildren Ceagan and Jack Wright, being presented with their prize by the proprietor of “Toyland,” Mr. Gordon Walker. Looking on is the Lions’ doughty mascot, Chip, and Lion Judy Pears who instigated and organised the Treasure Hunt.
The second prize, a selection of chocolates kindly donated by Patisserie Viennoise was won by team “Otley’s Little Chance.” The Lions also awarded a book-token prize to the team they adjudged to have come=up with the best name – “Grizzly Paws.”
The Lions thank all participants and trust they enjoyed themselves, congratulate all winners, and – above all – thank the businesses that cooperated and provided prizes. The Lions Treasure hunt will be back next year.
