A LUCKY eBay bidder has bagged a seven metre-high replica of the Eiffel Tower for a bargain price of £343 - and helped scouts and guides on their way to building their new headquarters.

The wooden representation of the Paris landmark was built by Burley Scouts and Guides and stood in garden in the centre of Burley-in-Wharfedale when the Grand Depart of the Tour de France came through the valley.

The structure was put up for sale on auction website eBay last week, to help generate funds towards building a new headquarters for Burley Scouts and Guides.

They need to about £400,000 in total for the replacement building - but it is hoped the sale of the Eiffel Tower replica will also help spread the word that more donations are needed.

The auction started on Tuesday August 5, and bidding began at just over £100 on August 8. A total of 11 bidders vied for the lot, with the final bid of £343 - made last Wednesday (August 13), finally winning the auction on Friday (August 15).

Money can also be donated to the Burley Scouts and Guides appeal online at uk.virginmoneygiving.com/charity-web/charity/finalCharityHomepage.action?charityId=1009425.
