ADDINGHAM Allotments and Gardens Association's 41st annual show went very well on Saturday (August 9), with a marked increase of entries compared to recent years.

Many were exhibiting for the first time which was very rewarding for the society and organisers hope it was also rewarding for the novice entrants.

There were 400 exhibits plus 75 children's entries. The quality of exhibits in all the categories was judged to be of a very high standard, giving the judges a difficult time choosing the winners - and in one class they felt it necessary to award two first places.

All the children's entries were exceptional and organisers' thanks go to the staff at the school for encouraging the pupils to use their imagination in a manner that only young people can.

They also thanked the judges. The judges, for vegetables and fruit were Eric Nelson from Storiths, flowers were judged by, John Bottomley, floral art was judged by Mrs S Edwards, baking and preserves by Mrs C Young, Handicrafts by Miss O Hirst, children's classes by Miss E Ackroyd and Mrs P Naylor, photography by Dr J Fontana.

The allotments were judged over a period of time by the committee and one of the Association's founder members, Mr D Smith.

The Show was open to the public in the afternoon and again was very well supported. The chairman welcomed Tom Benstead, another of the Associations' founder members, and the village Gala Queen, Emily Mayo to present the trophies to the prize winners.

Show organisers would also like to thank all the the members who sponsored classes, and local businesses which donated raffle prizes.
