COMMUNITIES Secretary Eric Pickles has asked Ilkley MP Kris Hopkins to continue his work on homelessness.

Mr Hopkins recently announced £65million funding from across Whitehall to councils and other organisations to tackle homelessness across the country.

The move latest reflects the importance of the issue, by having a minister dedicated to ensuring support continues in this area, says Mr Hopkins.

Since 2010, the Government has maintained over £500million funding to help those facing the threat of losing their home or sleeping rough.

Mr Hopkins said: “Tackling homelessness has been one of my key priorities over the past 10 months, so I’m pleased to continue giving it the attention it deserves in my new role.”

Mr Pickles said: “We’ve maintained a strong safety net to ensure anyone facing the threat of homelessness has access to the help they need – and we’re determined that this continue.

“That’s why I want a Minister dedicated to focusing on this important issue and so I’ve asked Kris Hopkins, alongside his local government role, to continue his work on homelessness policy.”
