The organisers of an annual golf day in Otley are celebrating seeing their fundraising total for the Alzheimer's Society top £30,000.

Otley Golf Club has hosted the event, sponsored by KM Norris Ltd and Strasse Porsche Specialists UK Ltd and supported by businesses from across the Wharfe Valley and beyond, for the past six years.

This year's competition was held on Friday, June 20 and raised more than £7,000 for the charity and the Dermatology department at St Luke's Hospital, Bradford.

The organising committee, comprising Adam, Matthew and Nicola Harris, Dave Forrest and Lindsay Dobby, were delighted with both the amount raised and support shown.

Nicola said: "The Alzheimer’s Society is a charity which is close to the heart of the organisers and many of the golfers who take part, as this disease has affected family members.

"After the game the golfers enjoyed an evening of great food, and entertainment hosted by Pete Emmett, which included a raffle and auction of sporting memorabilia.

"Each team and its players have been very generous and most of them have supported us from the start, back in 2008. We would like to thank all who were involved for their continued support.

"Last year we split the funds raised between the Alzheimer’s Society and the Dermatology department at St Luke’s - as organisers we have links with the charity and the hospital, and have been supported by Professor Andrew Wright and the fantastic work he does.

"This year has been a fantastic success and the money we've raised will be greatly appreciated by the two charities and, hopefully, in a small way make a difference to someone’s life."

The golfing teams compete on the day to win the Ken Norris Cup, which was named after Ken Norris of Askwith building firm KM Norris Ltd, who had been suffering from Alzheimer's disease when he died in 2012.

The winners this year were Pool Bank Building and Roofing, captained by Paul Newsome.

Nicola said: "Paul's team members, James Hunt, Simon Hawkins and Stan Hawkins, played their best game to date and finally went away with the cup - after six years of waiting!"

She added: "Thanks goes once again to all the teams and to Otley Golf Club for its support. Feedback from the visiting golfers has been that the club is a fantastic course with friendly hospitality, and this is why we continue to hold

the event, year after year, at the same location."

Next year's charity golf day will be held at the Otley course on June 19, 2015, and new teams are always welcome - for more details contact the club.
