Store managers fromBooths stores will be lacing up their walking boots and embracing the great outdoors in recognition of National Countryside Week (July 14 to 20).

Booths staff, shoppers and members of the local community will be coming together to take a short stroll as part of the Prince’s Countryside Fund’s “Walk a Country Mile” campaign, to raise awareness of the importance of the countryside to the UK during National Countryside Week.

In Ilkley, the walk takes place on Sunday, July 13 when people are invited to meet at the store at 4.30pmand take a walk through Ilkley. The route will pass along a footpath beside the river, Middleton woods, Ilkley Rugby Club and Ilkley Playhouse and return on a footpath running alongside allotments. The walk will finish back at store around 5.15pm where Booths will be providing tea and scones.

Edwin Booth, chairman of Booths, is a trustee of the Prince’s Countryside Fund and Booths is a founding member of the charity. He said: “We are truly privileged to live in such a beautiful place; from Cumbria’s magnificent mountains and lakes to the rugged Bowland Fells and Pennine Hills, the dramatic North York Moors National Park, and stunning coastline. Our countryside produces some of the finest food and drink in the country, and is among the most popular tourism destinations in the world

“But behind the stunning scenery and exceptional food on our plates, are the people who work tirelessly rain or shine to farm the land and maintain the landscape, walls and pathways, which are enjoyed by so many. We are proud of our roots and of the inspiring farmers who supply us, that’s why we are inviting our customers and the local community to join us to “Walk a Country Mile” and raise awareness of the incredible work the Prince’s Countryside Fund does to protect our greatest national asset.

“There’s no cost to join a Booths walk, just the pledge of your time, and a donation should you wish to make one."

Helen Aldis, Manager at the Prince’s Countryside Fund, added: "Taking a short walk is not only fun but will make us mindful of the importance of the countryside, and give us pause to consider how we support those who work to conserve it.”
