Otley firm's staff cycle length of Grand Depart for charity
6:15pm Saturday 28th June 2014 in Local news
Staff at an Otley-based waste management firm are celebrating cycling 341 miles for charity.
Employees at 707 Resource Management clocked up the distance, the equivalent of the entire UK-based starting section of this year's Tour de France, on exercise bicycles on Thursday, June 5.
The cycle4recycle World Environment Day event, held at the the company's head offices at Wharfebank Business Centre, has raised more than £1,000 for The World Wildlife Fund UK and Marie Curie Cancer Care.
And those taking part were given some expert help from a special visitor - Team Sky rider Josh Edmondson.
707's managing director, David Adams, said: "We were overwhelmed by the support we were given by everyone.
"It was a fantastic way to raise money and also give kick off the countdown to the Grand Depart on Saturday, July 5.
"With keen cyclists in our offices, Josh Edmondson not only helped the team in their last few miles but he also motivated and inspired them to achieve it in such a good time."
Representatives from many businesses who work with 707 were among the guests, who enjoyed a barbecue and drinks laid on by nearby restaurant Buon Apps.
