Plans for new light-up signs outside an Ilkley town centre restaurant have been branded excessive by a councillor.

Councillor Martin Smith (Con, Ilkley) has objected to the move by Pizza Express at Station Plaza, Station Road.

Councillor Smith, a Bradford councillor, says the plans for a “halo” illuminated fascia text and light line, a replacement internally illuminated hanging sign, an illuminated totem sign, a replacement illuminated roundel, four planters, a parasol and two plant pots were “totally inappropriate” for the listed railway building, which dates from 1865.

He asked council officers to present the plans to a planning panel if they were minded to approve them.
