More details of Tour de France road closures in the Ilkley area have been revealed by Bradford Council this week following discussions with race organisers.

The local authority has been in discussions with TdFHUB2014 Ltd and ASO, the organisers of the race, says closures need to be put in place to allow the race to pass through the district on July 5 and July 6.

Roads and junctions with side roads in Burley-in-Wharfedale, Ilkley and Addingham will need to be closed from 5.30am on Saturday, July 5.

On Sunday, July 6, when the race passes through Addingham, Silsden, Keighley, Cross Roads, Haworth and Oxenhope, they will need to be closed from 6.30am.

The council says the closure times are necessary to allow for the route to be prepared and infrastructure to be put in place before spectators arrive.

The council anticipates that on both days the roads will reopen during late afternoon to allow to spectators to disperse safely.

But it warned all road opening times are dependent on public safety and the need to manage traffic flow and will be subject to change as planning for the event progresses.

Bradford Council says it will write to residents and businesses along the route to let them know about how the road closures will affect them.

Resident-only car parking will be set up to allow those who normally park on the roadside to keep the route clear.

It is expected that vehicle access to, and within, certain areas of the district will be significantly restricted, particularly for Stage Two, and movement of traffic through places such as Addingham, Ilkley, Burley-in-Wharfedale, Keighley, Silsden, Cross Roads, Haworth and Oxenhope will not be permitted.

Revised bus and train timetables will be in operation with added trains and buses being laid on according to Metro.

Emergency services and health and social care providers are putting plans in place to maintain essential services. Emergency access for ‘blue light’ services will be a priority.
