A team from the Ilkley branch of Yorkshire Building Society and Outside the Box Cafe have once again joined up to get another project for adults with learning disabilities off the ground.

They plan to do a skydive on May 11 to raise money for the charity-run community cafe, which provides training and work placements for adults with learning disabilities.

Jemima Gwynn, one of the staff at the cafe who will be skydiving, said: “Our coffee machine is down to the efforts of Yorkshire Building Society, so when they suggested a skydive to get our supported employment project started, we jumped at it.”

Trustee, Karen Goodman, said: “Young people with learning disabilities have the same aspirations as everyone else – a nice home, friends, relationships, to be part of society and very importantly – employment.

“We want to work with the adults and local businesses to make this a reality, whether it is for two hours a week, full time, paid or unpaid and to ensure that each placement has the support it needs to succeed.”

Manager at the Ilkley branch of Yorkshire Building Society Lewis Wilkinson will be taking part in the skydive.

He said: “We are delighted to help launch this exciting project.”
