A student whose driving resulted in serious injuries to the driver of another car is facing a possible disqualification.

Laura Jones, 25, was driving her father’s Land Rover Freelander on the A59 at Beamsley when she lost control, Skipton magistrates were told on Friday.

Prosecuting, Caroline Midgley said a witness saw the Freelander overtake the lorry and narrowly miss another one coming the other way.

He then saw the Freelander on its roof and barrel into another car, said Mrs Midgley.

Jones, despite extensive damage to the Freelander, suffered minor injuries, but the driver of the other car suffered serious injuries and spent the next five days in Leeds General Infirmary.

Jones, of Hodgson Fold, Addingham, wrote to the court admitting driving without due care and attention on November 20 but included no mitigation.

But following the accident, she had told police she was a student in Harrogate, had been using her father’s car and had no recollection of the accident.

Magistrates adjourned sentencing until May 2 for Jones to attend because they were considering a driving ban.
